15 years ago, I wrote my first blog post on my original Velvet & Linen blog. What began as a one-way relationship, where I shared our design philosophy and eventually our life philosophy, quickly evolved into something much more than that. Whenever I shared a post or a video, an often enlightening conversation began in the comments, and slowly a community began to grow, both in numbers and in-depth.
As time went on, it became clear to Steve, Leila, and I, that we wanted to continue cultivating this community, not just online, but also in person.

This realization, along with a yearning to grow closer to the natural world, was one of the main motivators for our move to Tennessee. We wanted to create a space where we could gather to share and learn together - a place where our humanity could shine through and we could curate connections to each other and nature.

This has been our guiding light as we have dreamed up our farm.
After close to two years of construction, we are finally ready to bring these dreams to fruition as we host the unveiling of our gathering space, The Shed at Patina Meadow, on August 8th from 4-7 pm.

We will begin the evening with local refreshments and a tour of the space, diving deeper into the design of the Shed, as well as our plans for the future.
Since our goal for this space is to be an educational hub for our community to learn more about nature and the abundance it provides, we wanted to offer a class that exemplifies that mission in conjunction with our opening. This segment of the evening, titled, “How to Cultivate and Serve A Dynamic Kitchen Spread with Locally-Sourced Produce, Jams, and Honeys,” will be taught by Chelsea J. O’Leary of Wiley Canning Company, and Steven Abernathy & Claire Papavies of Greenwood Honey Company. All three of these wonderful teachers exemplify our values and dreams for Patina Meadow and will be resident educators here at the Shed.

Not only will this class offer a taste of their talents, but it will also feature Leila's organically grown Patina Meadow produce. From a hot pepper jelly crafted with our jalapeños to basil-infused honey drizzled over our heirloom tomatoes, the evening is sure to be as delicious as it is informative.

As I said, this evening is just an introduction. We look forward to offering many more opportunities for you to come visit and learn with us here at Patina Meadow. If there is anything in particular you are interested in diving deeper into together, please let us know in the comments.
See you at Patina Meadow.
