In the design process, as in all things in life, it can be easy to lose sight of the big picture.
You start with an idea, a vision that sparks a desire for change. But as you set off, that initial spark can be smothered by an overwhelming wave of details. Finding the perfect paint or selecting a specific swatch can become an all-consuming mission, and if you don’t pause to revisit the ember that first ignited you, the finished project may not shine as you hoped. You may begin a living room remodel with the intention of creating a comfortable space to gather, only to end up with a room filled with ornate pieces that, while beautiful, feel too precious to withstand the messiness of life.

Many people assume a designer’s role is to create those latter spaces, rooms meant to be admired. And while there is a time and place for that, designing homes goes deeper. It is about creating environments that remain rooted in the emotions that inspired them from the start, so a home can serve not only as a place of beauty, but also as an invitation to live intentionally, filled with moments of connection, creation, and clarity.

Today, I am thrilled to introduce Inga Casha of Inga Casha Interiors, who I believe beautifully embodies this true role of a designer. Through her Nashville-based design firm, she helps her clients create intentional homes that serve as authentic reflections of themselves, allowing them to live in alignment with the same values and intentions that shaped their spaces.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN STYLE, AND HOW HAS IT EVOLVED SINCE LAUNCHING INGA CASHA INTERIORS?
My design style is a blend of European-inspired elegance and modern organic living. I’m naturally drawn to classic architecture, layered textures, and materials that feel honest—linen, stone, aged wood—paired with a sense of refined restraint. Since launching Inga Casha Interiors, my work has evolved to be even more intuitive and personal.

Becoming a mother of five and growing as a business owner has deepened my appreciation for spaces that are both elevated and truly livable. I design homes to be experienced, not just photographed. Over time, I’ve embraced bolder choices while staying rooted in timelessness, allowing my projects to feel collected, soulful, and reflective of the families who live in them.
YOUR WORK OFTEN BLENDS BOLD COLOR WITH TIMELESS, ORGANIC ELEMENTS. WHAT DRAWS YOU TO THIS COMBINATION, AND HOW DOES IT HELP YOU CREATE SPACES THAT FEEL PERSONAL?
Color, for me, is emotional—it brings a story to life. I love pairing bold, unexpected hues with natural textures and classic forms because it creates a balance that feels both grounded and expressive. The organic materials add depth and calm, while the color injects personality and a sense of modern freshness.

That tension makes a space feel authentic, like it has evolved over time. I never want a room to feel flat or formulaic; I want it to feel like the people who live there. Using this combination allows me to create environments that feel bespoke, warm, and wonderfully human.
IS THERE A DESIGN “RULE” YOU SECRETLY LOVE TO BREAK?
I love breaking the rule that everything has to match. Some of the most memorable interiors are born from contrast—mixing woods, combining metals, letting old and new coexist. I believe a home should feel layered and collected, not perfectly coordinated. A bit of tension is what makes a space interesting.

FOR READERS REFRESHING A ROOM ON A BUDGET, WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO STRATEGIES FOR CREATING AN INTENTIONAL, WELL-DESIGNED SPACE WITHOUT OVERSPENDING?
Start with editing. Most rooms don’t need more—they need less. Remove everything that isn’t functional or beautiful, and let the space breathe. From there, focus on three high-impact elements:
LIGHTING
Swap harsh bulbs for warm ones, add a floor lamp, or update a shade. Light changes everything.
TEXTURES
A linen throw, a jute rug, or natural drapery instantly elevates a room without a major investment.
STYLING
Rearrange what you already have. Group objects in threes, incorporate fresh greenery, or restyle the coffee table.

Small, intentional shifts often create the biggest transformation.
CAN YOU SHARE A RECENT PROJECT YOU LOVED WORKING ON? WHAT MADE IT ESPECIALLY MEANINGFUL?
One of my recent favorite projects was a family home where we transformed the main living spaces to reflect better the way the clients truly lived. They wanted beauty, but they also needed durability—spaces where children could run, guests could gather, and life could unfold gracefully.

We layered European-inspired textures with warm woods, natural stone, and pieces with character. What made it meaningful was how deeply the family valued connection. The home became a backdrop for their memories, and knowing I played a part in shaping that is incredibly fulfilling.
IF SOMEONE FEELS STUCK ON A HOME DESIGN PROJECT, WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE THEM?
Start with how you want the space to feel, not how you think it should look. When you anchor your decisions in a feeling—calm, cozy, elevated, inspiring—the design becomes clearer and more personal. The aesthetics will follow.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ROOM IN A HOME TO DESIGN?
I love designing living rooms. They’re the heart of the home, where people gather, relax, and connect. It’s the space where form and function intersect most beautifully—where I can balance comfort with sculptural shapes, practical pieces with those special details that make a room unforgettable.

IF YOU WEREN’T A DESIGNER, WHAT OTHER PATH COULD YOU IMAGINE YOURSELF PURSUING?
I would probably be doing something in the lifestyle and hospitality world—hosting, entertaining, or creating spaces and experiences that bring people together. I’ve always loved the art of making others feel welcomed and cared for, whether through a thoughtfully set table or a beautifully designed room. It all comes from the same place.

WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE PIECE OF DESIGN ADVICE OR WISDOM YOU’VE RECEIVED, AND HOW HAS IT SHAPED YOUR WORK?
The best wisdom I’ve received is to design with longevity in mind. Trends fade, but quality, intention, and craftsmanship endure.

This idea has shaped my entire philosophy: I choose materials that age gracefully, pieces with soul, and palettes that stand the test of time. Homes should feel just as beautiful years from now as they do the day they’re finished.
