NOVEMBER AT PATINA HOME & GARDEN

Every month serves a purpose, and in my mind, I see November as a bridge across the expanse that lies between the vibrant abundance of autumn and the merry moments that are to come.

On the first days of the month, as we set off across the span, our boots meet the first fallen leaves. On this side of the crossing, we find ourselves sheltered by hillsides dotted with beacons of autumnal hues. We embrace the seasonal show by bringing those shades indoors. Summer’s vibrant tones are replaced by the warmth of amber, sienna, and gold.

Our pace is quick, though slower than the frantic speed of the season prior. Warmth still lingers in the air, but cold fronts begin to encroach, and our bodies crave the comfort of soft blankets, hot tea, and candlelight.

These slow moments don’t linger long at the start of our journey, but they offer a sweet preview of the days that lie ahead.

With each passing day, the landscape continues to change, and so do we. What were once scattered beacons of bright autumn leaves in a verdant sea soon engulf entire hillsides, setting them ablaze in rich beauty. Here, the colors reach their peak, and we pause, awestruck at the view. We give thanks for all of life’s riches and bask in the glory of a perfect fall day.

But our minds don’t allow us to stay there long, as time continues its never-ending tick. Each gust of wind reminds us of the impermanence of this moment, and as more leaves fall, the gray, bare branches usher us into the season ahead.

With pumpkins still on porches, we bring in Christmas trees and adorn them with ornaments. Gift lists begin to grow, and festive wrapping paper gradually replaces Halloween candy wrappers. Slowly but surely, the holiday season encroaches, outshining the last days of fall with its twinkling lights and bright, joyful celebration.

Even as we welcome the sparkle and cheer of the holidays, November leaves its mark, a quiet reminder to pause and notice the small, fleeting moments. The crisp air, the last leaves clinging to branches, the amber glow of fading sunsets, all linger in memory, warming us as the days grow colder.

At Patina Home & Garden, we cherish this in-between, the gentle transition from fall to winter, from harvest to celebration. We carry the richness of the season indoors, in our décor, our gatherings, and even in the simple act of lighting a candle at day’s end. November may be a bridge, but it is also a gift, a time to reflect, give thanks, and savor the beauty found in change.

xx,
Brooke
